Transmosis accepting applications for subsidized cybersecurity training program
HENDERSON, Nev., July 17, 2017 – Transmosis Corp. will open a new Cybersecurity Training Program this summer in Southern Nevada. The program is funded through the STEM Workforce Challenge Grant through the State of Nevada Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation and Technology (OSIT). The training intends to attract incumbent, displaced workers, minorities and postsecondary students. In greater Clark County, there are a limited number of affordable cybersecurity training opportunities, but the need is growing. According to the Labor Market Information from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, the long-term growth projections for the occupation of Information Security Analyst in the Las Vegas region is 38.6%, and 43.5% for the State, for the Professional, Scientific, or Technical Industry. There are only 290 people employed in this type of position in Las Vegas, and only 360 throughout the state, but there are 80,180 nationwide. Tuition for students in the training is waived.
The virtual boot camp will begin in August. Admission deadline for applicants is 5 p.m. on July 31, 2017. A limited number of seats are available.
“What is unique about this program is that it will offer trainees the opportunity to acquire and enhance their cybersecurity skills based on the needs of Southern Nevada region employers and give graduates a direct pathway to employment,” stated Chase Norlin, CEO of Transmosis. “We are excited to partner with the State of Nevada to give Greater Clark County training and entrance into a highly lucrative and in-demand field,” said Norlin.
The program will provide 15 participants with the Cybersecurity workforce education and skills training which match the needs of employers.
“There is a large and growing need for cybersecurity professionals in Nevada,” said OSIT Director Brian Mitchell. “We are looking forward to expanding our partnership with Transmosis to put more Nevadans, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds in STEM, onto career pathways toward success.”
The employer-driven cybersecurity program is built on results from a previous program also funded in part by a grant from OSIT, the City of Henderson IT Bootcamp, Externship and Job Placement Program (STEM Workforce Challenge II). The Henderson program is based on Transmosis’ nationally recognized on-the-job (OJT) training model and workforce accelerator developed in Silicon Valley. Within the first month of graduation of the Henderson program, 83% were hired. On average graduates had a median salary increase of 50%. Three students were unemployed prior to being accepted into the bootcamp. “It is wonderful to hear from our Nevada students how particularly effective and life changing the program was for them”, said Norlin.
“I was working at Jamba Juice trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life,” said Zen Mori, IT Technician at Full Spectrum Laser. “I heard about the IT Desktop Support program and couldn’t help but inquire. I couldn’t be happier. Thanks to the hand-on experience and one-on-one mentorship I am now employed full time,” commented Mori.
“Overall, our goals are to close the skills gap in the local cybersecurity industry sector, reduce unemployment, develop a stronger tech workforce and industry cluster, while furthering the state’s goal of diversifying the economy by creating a highly-trained workforce with middle-skills for IT careers, attracting more tech industries to the region, and establish public-private partnerships to promote sustainability”, stated Andrew Moy, VP of Business Development, Transmosis.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and be legally able to work in the United States. Applicants should be interested in working and building a career in Cybersecurity. Experience is not necessary, but applicants should have good-to-some computer skills and mobile experience.
